About Us


Inkululeko Wildlife Services (Pty) Ltd (IWS) is a 100% woman owned, micro-enterprise Wildlife/ Faunal Specialist Company founded in 2014, with key focus being on bat and bird specialist assessments and conservation research projects.

 

The senior IWS personnel have extensive experience in project management and fieldwork for numerous faunal and bat specialist assessments. They have completed and are currently conducting pre-construction bat monitoring at over 34 proposed wind energy facilities in South Africa and Africa and ten operational bat and bird monitoring projects (in partnership with Wildskies Ecological Services) at wind energy facilities in South Africa.

Kate MacEwan is the Managing Director and Senior Zoologist of IWS and was a founding member/ owner of Natural Scientific Services cc from 2003-2014. She is a SACNASP registered zoologist and environmental scientist and holds a BSc (Honours) in Zoology from Wits University. She has over 22 years of zoological and practical bat conservation experience and a wide diversity of associations with South African and international academics and biologists. Kate is currently the chairperson for the South African Bat Assessment Advisory Panel (SABAAP), and a co-author of both the South African Good Practise Guidelines for Surveying Bats in Wind Farm Developments: 4th Edition (Sowler et al., 2017) and the South African Good Practice Guidelines for Operational Monitoring for Bats at Wind Energy Facilities: 1st Edition (Aronson et al., 2014). Kate is also the co-author on several bat species accounts in the latest southern African Red Data mammal listings (Child et al., 2016)). In addition, she is Fall Arrest and Rescue certified to climb heights exceeding 3m.
